Enjoy a weekend of culture and history with magnificent countryside delights in Hamsun Country. Spend the night in a traditional Nordland house from 1850. Breakfast, a boat trip and a gentle walk on Husøyvær included.

Magnificent marine landscape on Hamarøy

Husøyvær and the seven tidal currents in Hamarøy make up one of the finest cohesive marine ecosystems anywhere in Norway. The combination of the currents, agriculture and broad biological diversity make the area very special indeed. The area is well protected by the mountains that surround it and is the habitat of a rich variety of birds and a large population of fish.

Award-winning film from Husøyvær

The documentary entitled “Ragnar og Sigfred og de sju havstrauman” (Ragnar and Sigfred and the seven ocean currents) has won several international film awards. The work is based on documentation of the coastal culture, marine life and traditions of Husøyvær. The film itself presents a portrait of two elderly men, both with strong connections to one of the fantastically beautiful places in the Nordland countryside.

In the footsteps of Ragnar and Sigfred

Nature plays the lead role in the film, with Helge Haukeland, the photographer, viewing the men’s pride and noble behaviour as a result of a harmonious relationship with nature.

Sadly, the two men have since passed away, but a married couple now lives on Husøya. A boat trip through this area provides knowledge and insight into the interaction between people and nature down through the generations.
