Nicht unbedingt, sagt der Sonnenphysiker P\u00e5l Brekke von der Norwegian Space Agency. Seiner Ansicht nach ist die Zeit rund um die Herbst-Tagundnachtgleiche besonders gut geeignet, um die Aurora Borealis zu beobachten. Hier erkl\u00e4rt er, warum.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Die Nordlichtsaison im Herbst beginnt mit einem Paukenschlag. Ende September und Anfang Oktober bieten besonders gute Chancen. Rund um die Tagundnachtgleichen im Herbst und Fr\u00fchjahr treten generell mehr starke Polarlichter auf. Das h\u00e4ngt mit der Wechselwirkung zwischen Sonnenwind und dem Magnetfeld der Erde zusammen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ab Mitte September werden zudem die N\u00e4chte deutlich dunkler. Er ging davon aus, dass die Sonne einen Strom geladener Teilchen aussendet. Diese treffen auf das Magnetfeld der Erde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Teilchen bestehen aus Protonen und Elektronen. Man nennt sie den Sonnenwind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Das Magnetfeld der Erde wirkt dabei wie ein unsichtbarer Schutzschild. Es verhindert, dass unsere Atmosph\u00e4re direkt vom Sonnenwind getroffen wird. Diese sch\u00fctzende H\u00fclle nennt man die Magnetosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-geomagnetische-sturme-entstehen\">Geomagnetische St\u00fcrme entstehen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Der Sonnenwind und solare St\u00fcrme transportieren auch das Magnetfeld der Sonne. Dieses kann mit dem Magnetfeld der Erde wechselwirken. Dabei entstehen sogenannte Geomagnetic storm. Sie liefern die Energie f\u00fcr besonders starke Polarlichter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hier liegt der Schl\u00fcssel zum Verst\u00e4ndnis. So wie eine Kompassnadel. Auch das Magnetfeld der Sonne besitzt diese beiden Pole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ist das Magnetfeld im Sonnenwind nach S\u00fcden gerichtet, wirkt es dem nach Norden gerichteten Magnetfeld der Erde entgegen. Die Felder schw\u00e4chen sich gegenseitig. Der Schutzschild der Erde wird dadurch schw\u00e4cher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Es entstehen gewisserma\u00dfen \u00d6ffnungen in der Magnetosph\u00e4re. Geladene Teilchen k\u00f6nnen leichter in Richtung der Polarregionen str\u00f6men. Dort treffen sie auf Atome und Molek\u00fcle in der Atmosph\u00e4re \u2013 und erzeugen die leuchtenden Nordlichter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ist das Magnetfeld im Sonnenwind hingegen nach Norden gerichtet, bleibt die Wechselwirkung schwach. Er kann das ganze Jahr \u00fcber auftreten. Besonders stark ist er jedoch rund um die Tagundnachtgleichen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ihr Modell erkl\u00e4rt, warum sich diese \u201e\u00d6ffnungen\u201c in der Magnetosph\u00e4re dann h\u00e4ufiger bilden. Dann kann es geladene Teilchen von der Sonne leichter aufnehmen. Das f\u00fchrt zu st\u00e4rkeren Polarlichtern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gleichzeitig stehen die magnetischen Pole der Erde in einem nahezu rechten Winkel zur Richtung des Sonnenwinds.
