At L\u00e5nan, they live together in mutual respect, to the comfort and benefit of both. \n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">There is nothing more\ncomfortable and warm than a real eider duck duvet. The down has teeny, tiny\nlittle hooks, which make it light, fluffy and warm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On L\u00e5nan, one of the\n6,500 islands and islets in the Vega Archipelago, the tradition of caring for\nthe eider ducks and harvesting their down lives on. In April, they make\nsure the tiny eider duck houses are filled with dry seaweed. In May\u2013June, the\neider ducks find a house before the male leaves and the female lays eggs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To keep the eggs\nwarm, she plucks the silky soft down from her own body and places it around the\neggs. The people are out and about with their brooms, scaring off the eagle, so\nthe mother duck can feel safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first balls of\nfluff hatch in early June, and not long after, the ducklings waddle after their\nmother down to the sea to start their dangerous lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turning the eider down into an eider down duvet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the birds have left, the down can be harvested. The down is cleaned on a cleaning harp, removing bits of eggshell and seaweed. This job needs to be done by hand in order to keep the down soft and fluffy. Not until August\u2013September is the down ready to become duvets and pillows of the highest quality. <\/p>\n\n\n\t<div class=\"wp-block-vnn-gallery gallery-count-3\">\n\t\t<ul><li Islands <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This summer idyll\ntakes place on the plethora of small islands outside the main island of Vega,\nall they way out in the Gulf Stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Green, treeless meadows, small coves with sandy and pebble beaches and a colourful collection of farmhouses and other buildings from a time when L\u00e5nan was inhabited year-round these picturesque surroundings make you want
