The elegant arc of the Raftsund Bridge offers wonderful views of the narrow sound, surrounded by 1,000 metre (3,300 ft) high mountains, but if you look to the north, you will also see the greener and more open landscape of north Vester\u00e5len, and the 1,262 metre (4,140 ft) high spire of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nordnorge.com\/en\/hiking\/?News=450\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">M\u00f8ysalen<\/a>. This is a landscape of dark purple, craggy mountaintops that shelter fertile villages, pleasant bays and fjord arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-svolvaer-in-lofoten-is-a-photographers-idyll\">Svolv\u00e6r in Lofoten is a photographers idyll<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The location of the Lofoten capital Svolv\u00e6r is beautiful, with a profusion of small islands and islets in a basin edged by steep mountains, all overlooked by the Svolv\u00e6rgeita rock formation on the mountainside. Photo: Baard Loeken \/ nordnorge.com<\/figcaption><\/div>\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-take-a-detour-to-the-beautiful-island-henningsvaer\">Take a detour to the beautiful island Henningsv\u00e6r<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Henningsv\u00e6r&nbsp;is scattered over dozens of islands under the craggy 942 metre (3,090 ft) high V\u00e5gakallen. We recommend a walk down to the breakwater for some photos of the mountain and harbour. On your walk, you can stop off at&nbsp;Galleri Lofotens Hus, with paintings of Lofoten when it was discovered by Norwegian painters, or Engelskmannsbrygga (&#8216;Englishman&#8217;s Wharf&#8217;) with its glass-blowers, potters and candle factory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-gimsoy-and-vestvagoy-are-where-the-vikings-roamed\">Gims\u00f8y and Vestv\u00e5g\u00f8y are where the Vikings roamed <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lofoten&#8217;s golf course lies on the smaller island of Gims\u00f8ya, with a fantastic view of the mountains of B\u00f8 in Vester\u00e5len. Further west, the landscape has a surprise in store: behind the massive mountain range, the land levels out into a plain in the middle of the island of Vestv\u00e5g\u00f8ya. The main sight there is the reconstructed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nordnorge.com\/en\/history-and-archaeology\/?News=66\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Viking chieftain&#8217;s house at Borg<\/a>. All the settlements are concentrated along the inner coast in picturesque fishing villages with old buildings: Reine, S\u00f8rv\u00e5gen, Moskenes, Tind and the village with the shortest name of all, \u00c5. A boat trip into the Reinefjord will take you to the foot of those impressive peaks, while the&nbsp;Norwegian Fishing Village Museum&nbsp;at \u00c5 focuses on coastal culture.
