\u201cWhat\u2019s so special about Lyngen is that you have alpine terrain straight from sea level. It\u2019s just so steep, straight up from the very first step.\u201d
Eivind Aanesen and his girlfriend Emma Sunnefeldt Nyberg are on their way up Sofiatind (1222 m.a.s.) Their route goes straight up from the road.
\u201cIn the Alps, you have to get up to an elevation of 3000\u20134000 metres to reach the same terrain,\u201d Emma says.
\u201cYeah, and you don\u2019t get the sea there. I think Lyngen attracts so many ski tourers because it is so spectacularly beautiful with this combination of sea and sky. It doesn\u2019t matter which peak you choose in Lyngen \u2013 the view is always perfect,\u201d Eivind says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lyngen Alps are a short drive from Troms\u00f8<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Lyngen peninsula sits at 69\u00b0 north, approx. 50 km  east of Troms\u00f8<\/a>. The shortest route from Troms\u00f8 is to go to Breivikeidet and then take the ferry <\/a>over to Svensby, which is approx. mid-way up the peninsula. Alternatively, you can drive via Nordkjosbotn to Lyngseidet, a drive of approx. two hours from Troms\u00f8.
The jagged mountains stretching across the peninsula have earned the name Lyngsalpan <\/a>\u2013 the Lyngen Alps. The highest peak is Jiehkkev\u00e1rri<\/a>, at 1834 metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\t
