Join us on a journey in the Arctic Circle. Take the train along the Nordlandsbanen. Travel off the beaten track with the Nordlandsekspressen. Through magnificent nature that will take your breath away. Into a cultural environment you will love.

Helgeland and Salten have a rich Sami culture and a long industrial history. Seven national parks (Rago, Sjunkhatten, Junkerdal, Lahko, Saltfjellet, Børgefjell and Lomsdal-Visten), a world heritage site (Vega) and many other delights. Many attractive day trips and hiking trails (such as the Nordland Trekking Trail). Whether you travel on foot, by bike, by car, on rails or along the waves. It’s a short distance between the border mountains and the fairy-tale coast.

Do you want to participate in exciting experiences for children and adults, perhaps with your girlfriend or group of friends? There is plenty of space here and you can meet exciting people and local communities. Good meals with flair and local ingredients in charming surroundings. You can take it easy, and just enjoy if you want. Time to cross the Arctic Circle?

Kathrine Sørgård’s selected stops

Read what travel writer Kathrine Sørgård and her young nephew experienced on their trip in spring 2020:

Kathrine Sørgård, that’s me: A traveler in stories. Setting the mood with words as I photograph myself across the country, lengthwise and crosswise. My inner compass constantly pulls me north. Perhaps because I grew up with fishermen and sailors in my close family, fell in love with coastal culture at an early age and am passionately inclined to be an “island-hopper”. We are two mermaids, you and I, my grandmother Ragna from Lofoten used to say. Grew up with a strong oral storytelling tradition. Depicts places, human encounters, houses and cabins for publications that are published on glossy paper, mainly as a freelancer for Egmont Forlag. My heart is northerly: Please lead me out on wild roads. Love to travel by train, bus, ferry and speedboat. Have never taken the note and for a number of years have had the greatest pleasure in exploring Northern Norway by public transport.

Do you want to do something extra fun with the kids, just let them challenge themselves or learn something new while you’re here? Here’s the best tips for the family holiday in Helgeland. Want to post some really cool photos of majestic mountain peaks, beautiful views, fiery sunsets and white-sand beaches? Here are the top insta spots in Bodø og Salten.

We highly recommend climate-friendly transport
